Wonderful Time with India Flint

Just came back from an amazing 3 day class with the fabulous India Flint.
We played with plant based dyeing on paper and fabric. We filled our time
at Darcy’s studio (near Santa Barbara) by experimenting with a variety of natural sources as fiber and paper color tools for mark making. The weather was perfect,
the food was perfect, the company was perfect. What else could we ask for?

We all got home with a whole lot of material to use in our own creations.
I am planning to make some books, wall hanging and possibly tote bags as well.

Now, a few days later, after rushing to the thrift store and purchasing all the needed equipment, I have created a whole new stash of papers which I am so excited about! These will become my newest artist books very soon.

ONE ARTIST JOURNAL blog hop and Book giveaway

I am very excited to participate in my friend ORLY AVINERI’s blog hop, to celebrate the release of her new book. This beautiful, colorful and inspirational book titled “One Artist Journal” is actually a gathering of her journal /blog posts from the past 4 years. Orly treats visual journaling as an art form all by itself. She combines visual and written comments about art, family, friendships, about human traits and sentiments, about social issues and anything else that goes through her creative mind. It is very thought provoking and visually inspiring at the same time. A real treat for anyone.
If you would like to participate in a her book giveaway visit her blog http://oneartistjournal.com/ and leave a comment. The winner will be announced on 5.25.
If you would like to have your own copy of Orly’s book it is available from her eStore  https://www.createspace.com/3868179 (which is preferable for her) or from Amazone: http://www.amazon.com/One-Artist-Journal-Orly-Avineri/dp/1477401415/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1336760543&sr=8-1
(or directly from her in places where she teaches her workshops).

CREATE CLASSES and a TA-DA moment

I finally found some time to post my classes samples. I will be teaching these at the CREATE retreat in Irvine in May - June 2012.
My 6 hour class will include several mixed media techniques with a final project of one or two artist books that will include photos that students took.
My 3 hour class will include a quick printmaking technique plus some mixed media techniques with a final project of a bound mini journal.

Below are the mini journals and photos of journals that have been filled with collaged/printed  images.

While taking these pictures I had an urge to photograph a bunch of my journals together which created a "TA-DA" moment for me. Michelle Ward had posted a challenge on her blog that called for a "TA-DA" list. Unfortunately I only have time for one item right now..and these are my journals.

While at it, I also photographed some of my ROD journals (from an on-line class by MarryAnn Moss)  that I have completed last year. These fabric covers journals are really cozy and feel like stuffed animals in a way. You just want to hug them!

The Altered Page

Seth Apter from "The Altered Page" blog has done it again. Seth posts articles and surveys of mixed media art and artists. Each post is very informative and inspiring at the same time. Go check it out and see for yourself.
I have participated in some of his surveys including this one about who inspires me.
